You can start an appendix cancer fundraiser for Appendicure on Givebutter, the platform that handles all of Appendicure’s online donations. Your personal page raises money for Appendicure, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit focused on appendiceal cancers (EIN 41-5040966), and every gift made through it goes to Appendicure.
People in the Appendicure community keep asking me how they can raise money for this work. Some want to give up birthday presents. Some want to honor someone they lost. Some want to mark a clear scan or the anniversary of a surgery. This page shows you how to set up your own page and share it.
How to start an appendix cancer fundraiser on Givebutter
- Go to the Fundraise for Appendicure page on Givebutter.
- Click the Start a Fundraiser button.
- Create a free Givebutter account with your email address. You need the account so you can edit your page later.
- Give your page a title and a goal. Write a few sentences about why you’re doing this. Add a photo if you have one.
- Copy your personal link and send it to friends, family, and coworkers by text, email, or social media.
Your page shows how much you’ve raised as gifts come in. The money goes to Appendicure, not to you, so you never have to handle cash or forward payments.
Ideas for your appendix cancer fundraiser
Birthday fundraisers
A birthday is the easiest place to start. Set up your fundraising page a week or two before your birthday and give it a title like “Sarah’s Birthday for Appendicure.” Ask people to give to your page instead of buying you a present. Then share your link in a birthday post, a text, or an email.
If you use Facebook, please share your Givebutter link in a regular post instead of using Facebook’s built-in birthday fundraiser button. Appendicure doesn’t take donations through Facebook, so a Givebutter link is the way to make sure your birthday gifts reach Appendicure.
Anniversaries and memorials
The anniversary of a diagnosis, a surgery, or a clear scan works the same way as a birthday. You can also set up a page in memory of someone you lost and share it at a service or on an anniversary.
Wording for an obituary or online announcement
Families often ask what to write in an obituary, a funeral program, or an online memorial. You can copy either version below.
Full version
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that gifts be made to Appendicure, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit focused on appendix cancer research and patient support (EIN 41-5040966). Gifts can be made online at appendicure.com/appendix-cancer-fundraiser.
Short version, for listings with a word limit
Memorial gifts may be made to Appendicure (EIN 41-5040966) at appendicure.com/appendix-cancer-fundraiser.
If you set up a memorial fundraising page for your loved one, put that page’s link in the announcement instead. Gifts will then show up on their page.
Events and holidays
You can also attach your page to something you’re already doing, like a golf outing, a game night, or a bake sale at work. Giving Tuesday falls on December 1, 2026, which makes it a good day to share your link.
Other ways to raise money
Ask your employer to match
Many companies match employee gifts to 501(c)(3) nonprofits. Ask your HR team if yours does. They will usually need the legal name, Appendicure, and the EIN 41-5040966.
Run an in-person event
If you raise cash or checks at an event, the simplest route is to give the total through your fundraising page so it shows up in your progress. If you need to send a check instead, email info@appendicure.com and I’ll send you mailing instructions.
Print a flyer
For a memorial service, a party, or a table at work, print this one-page flyer. It has a QR code people can scan with their phone to give or start their own fundraising page, and a blank line to write in who the gifts honor.
Share the donation link
If you don’t want to run a page, sharing the Appendicure donation link with the people around you helps too.
Where the money goes
Appendicure runs the Patient-Led Global Appendix Cancer Registry, hosts live webinars where appendix cancer researchers and clinicians answer patient questions, and publishes patient education on appendicure.com. Donations pay for that work and for appendix cancer research.
Donating from outside the United States
Appendicure has supporters all over the world, and you can give from almost any country through the same Givebutter page. You can pay with a credit card, a debit card, or PayPal.
Givebutter processes every gift in U.S. dollars, so the amounts you see are in dollars, not your local currency. When you check out, choose your country on the billing screen. Your bank or card company converts the amount and may add a small conversion fee.
Tax deductions for gifts to Appendicure apply to U.S. taxpayers. I can’t offer tax relief in other countries right now. Givebutter also doesn’t work in a few countries, including Russia, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia. If you live in one of them, or your payment won’t go through, email info@appendicure.com and I’ll help you find another way to give.
